FEC -D Chemotheraphy

I am about to have my third chemo of the combination of drugs FEC. Then I will have 3 treatments of Docetaxel at 3 weekly intervals.

Any advice for handling possible side effects of this last drug?

Also, just noticed I have to put both mobile and landline phones on to "speaker" to be able to hear the callers.  Is hearing loss of a certaind frequency  caused by the FEC chemo?

    Hi Anne, I'm sorry if any of my comments got you anxious, really the last three were easier because you know your getting closer to the end, it was just harder emotionally because you have gone through a heap of crap & it all just builds up. Yes I'm finished my chemo and I don't have to have any radiation(thank you!) but I have an appointment with my oncologist next week to start my tamoxifen. Bit worried about the Sid effects but I guess I have to go with it if it's going to prevent this BC coming back! Good luck Linda

    Thanks Leonie... think I just neede to calm down... had got overwhelmed reading all the possible side efects they warn you about!

    Have collected some good tips now and as you say, will just go with it!

    Hi Linda

     

     mouthwash with coke!... will give thah a try.

     Also have added banana paddle pops to the shopping list.

     Like you i have to have the injection after treatment and watch the temp.. will be on to the painkillers to avoid the emergency ward visit

    Have you now finished all your treatments?

     thanks for the advice... will try the lemon barley as don't lke ginger ale much.

    Will be prepared to start dosing up  on panadol round day 4.

     Think I've been getting anxious about this treatment as the pages of side effects they give you are overwhelming!

    When you say this has been your second round of chemo after 9 years... I'm sorry to hear that ( makes me ashamed for whinging!)

    Oh god Linda, I forgot about the furry mouth! I wish I'd known the coke trick. I went nuts for banana paddle pops too. I just ate too many!! I'm seeing my oncologist tomorrow and I know she's going to yell at me about losing weight. I don't mind though because I want to lose it desperately and she gives me extra motivation! xx Jane

    Hello,  My motto whilst on this drug was -Just go with the flow .  You will also survive just like the rest of us.  If you do a search on this site there are a lot of good tips.  Take good care of yourself and make sure you are Number One. XLeonie

    I just finished my block of 3 docetaxel at the end of November I found this harder than the fec ,more mentally than physically. Due to my eyelashes and eyebrows making an exit, but also my taste went completely out the window so I ate everything in sight to try and find something that tasted good & didn't taste yuck, i have put on about 8 kgs so my advice would be don't over eat, but in saying that banana paddle pops always tasted great. My mouth felt like it was covered in glue & it made me grumpy, frustrated and sad. Rinsing my mouth out with coke also helped with the claggy taste. Also i had to have an injection 24 hours after my chemo for my immune system and i got really bad back and bone pain 5 days after so if you have to have this just be aware that this might happen. I ended up in emergency ward in the middle of the night but i fixed that in the next treatment by taking endone & nurophne plus the day before it happened. Everyone is different though. Anyway good luck with your last three treatments keep your chin up take care Linda

    Hi there, I had my last docetaxel treatment about 6 weeks ago. I had no nausea or vomitting and felt quite hungry. I was happy about this because the treatment I had 9 years ago made me feel MUCH sicker. You need to drink lots of liquid during the week after treatment, and I found it easier to drink lemon barley cordial that was icy cold and use a straw. I had quite painful bones on days 4 and 5 and found it useful to stick rigidly to 4 hourly panadol. I found being active lessened the pain a bit. Also, I found I felt worse if I tried to do to much; I tried to stop and rest as soon as I felt tired. All the best for your treatment and take it easy. xx Jane
