Fatigue and radiation

It seems to be definitely a side affect from radiation as some of the nursing staff have told me too. i am also finding the last few booster shots are tiring but quite honestly tomorrow is the last one and then I can take it a little easy and try to relax abit and focus on the healing side of things.

yes I think that would work, I just felt in my last week that my concentration was not there I was all vague and spacey in my head. Those are not good driving conditions.

I did have 30 treatments though ontop of loads of other stuff, we are all different.

I do appreciate all the comments... it makes me realise that we all have a different experience with our treatments ... there is no normal ... and what I need to do is just trust what my body is telling me ... and rest when I need to and do things when I have the energy. 

I have been able to drive myself... and haven't had an issue with it so far.  I am lucky that I have supports that can take me if need be.   Donna,  your option to take the bus would be a good back up plan if you need.

Donna,  with the level of fatigue where you felt unsafe to drive, would it be OK to travel by bus?  That's my only alternative if I can't drive.

I had 30 session and near the end I didn't drive myself, I was so fatigued and spacey, to be honest I just didn't trust myself to drive.

I did have my radiation after breast surgery, chemo and kidney surgery though so I expect I was already somewhat fatigued.

As for the breast pain I am 18 months post surgery and saw my surgeon today, she told me I can expect to always feel some discomfort and pain.

Thanks , Adean.  Seems like all of us are different.   I may have to grit my teeth very hard.... like all the other ladies who've been thro' it already.  It's good to be prepared knowing that what's 'normal' can cover a lot of reactions.    

I'm going to have to drive myself to radiation therapy.  Don't have any other way of getting there.   I wonder if I'll be OK to drive if (when!) brain muddling fatigue like that hits at the last bit.

i thought it was like a days skiing when i hadnt been skiiling for a decade--totally..fatigued and the walk to the bus stop seemed quite far--i think i did take a few days off work, and then the machine needed repair so i got 2 more days off...and it was a bit of a 'lift' as the fatigue goes and then it nvever came back quite the same and then i had two weeks off leave so that was good and then about a week after radiation treatment stopped it just 'lifts' which is a good feeling ---this will  pass...this will pass..

Thanks Hazel.... you nailed it!   It isn't a "normal" tiredness... as I certainly know what that is like as a solo mum.   Yes, this is like a fuzzy drugged thing... Like I will be in the kitchen feel a haze take over the mind..... Sometimes I think I am imaging it but after my diagnoses I know to trust what my body is telling me...
