Eyelashes falling out again 5 months after last chemo and then again 3 months later

Hi there

Could anyone please tell me if you experienced this before? I lost my eyelashes 5 months after my chemo finished and now again 3 months later. I am really upset about it as I want to look as normal as possible and don't like wearing fake eyelashes as they are fiddly and I really don't have enough time to deal with them. I have 3 children under 5 and consider myself still ok looking so losing my eyelashes means a lot to me. No one has warned me about this before and I can't believe that other people haven't experienced it.

If you had this before when does it stop? I don't want to be constantly reminded of the chemo hairless days.

Thank you in advance for all your answers.

  • Yep me too. I keep losing eyelashes usually into my eye! I gave up on mascara i use eyeliner. When you remove swipe down to ensure not going into eye!

  • Hi Adriana, it happened to me.I lost all my eyelashes and then they grew back, only to all fall out again! Once they grew back a second time, they didn't fall out again. But they were never the same- very thinned out.I used to use eyeliner rather than false eyelashes. Tonya xx

  • Thank you Robyn. I just don't want this to be happening for years. I am scared to remove my mascara so I keep it for days in case they fall out more. But after a while they look bad so will eventually have to remove the mascara and see what happens.

  • Hi Adriana. I finished Chemo last September. My eyelashes are pretty scant and my eyebrows are non-existent..except for a few random hairs...so I am still waiting!!!! Good news though...I went to the hairdressers for the Ist time in nearly twelve months..I was so excited!!! It was lovely to have it cut and styled...and I still have my curls. I think it is different for all of us.Best Wishes. Chris.x

  • Hi Adriana

I finished chemo in Oct 2014. I didn't lose my eyelashes and eye brows completely at the time but I have noticed in the last couple of weeks that my eyelashes have started to fallout again. I was wondering the same thing. After reading Robyn's response I guess maybe it's just a cycle. Bugger ??

  • Hello:) This hasn't happened to me,but there is lots of written stuff online that talks about eyelashes and eyebrows also, falling out in cycles, sometimes for months and even longer, after chemo finishes.Apparently they can fall out in regular cycles.Hope this helps.I don't think it's that uncommon either.Cheers Robynxox
