Expander

I have just had a masectomy and expander surgery a week ago. The 'boob tube' support I have to wear is really restrictive in this hot weather. Any suggestions?

Thanks Maree

  • Sorry I don't have the tags anymore...I think it was just a KMart own-brand and was called something like a 'comfort bra'.

  • Hi Julie

Could you tell me what type the berlie bra is - does it open down the front?

  • The advice from PS is all so different. Mine said no bra for 4 weeks or the elastic tube the nurse had given me. It was a bit tricky as mine was a single mastectomy so i had a saggy boob on one side. I took one my ordinary brad and cut out the mastectomy side leaving a single sode and the band round the bottom. Sounds weird but worked until i could wear the berlie bra after 4 weeks. . Julie
  • Thanks for that message. Could you give me the brand name of the bras you bought at KMart. Much appreciated.

  • Hi Maree,

I had a double mastectomy with expanders about 8 weeks ago - my plastic surgeon provided 2 soft bras that he insists I wear 24/7, even now. I found the same bras in KMart, with padded inserts, that I just removed, so now I have 6 bras to wear (white, black and natural)...they are so comfy and supportive at the same time. Great in the heat as they just absorb any perspiration, and by having a few of them I can just change them every day.
