Exercise and Cancer Catalyst special

A friend of mine who is also in treatment for breast cancer told me about this episode of Catalyst about Exercise and Cancer and I thought I'd share it.
I've been walking everyday through chemo (all 18 weeks of it :s ) including on chemo days and really feel its helped me with physical side effects and with my mental health too. So it's interesting to see the science behind it all.

  • Thanks kmakm will look that up.  :)

shs - my hands are nearly normal and the rest is improving!! Oncologist said that the nerves in feet etc are longer so will take more time.  There is a definite improvement, I need to get some resistance training in to deal with the muscle loss, once again -  big thanks people xx
  • The ExMed Cancer programme is up and running in Melbourne at a number of locations. I took part in the pilot programme and can thoroughly recommend it. Personally tailored and supervised exercise by an exercise physiologist.
  • I have been attending Pear Exercise Physiology in Brisbane since I finished treatment 12 months ago. They have a ‘Pink Moves’ group for women who are recovering from breast cancer or presently going through treatment. I can’t recommend them highly enough. The program is especially tailored for us and the EP’s are exceptional, with a vast knowledge of breast cancer. The program has helped me regain my strength and fitness. I don’t know where I would be without Pear.
  • Hey team,
I am a huge fan of resistance training and have done it all my life. I was very excited to see this video.
There is an excercise physiologist in Brisbane northside (Pear) who design a training program that is relevant to Breast Cancer specifically.

  • I'm really glad to hear that @Nefertari a friend of mine who is still in chemo said that about going on an exercise bike recently, she felt feeling come whooshing back in to her hands.
  • Thankyou for the link, wish I had seen this before /  during my chemo. I have been exercising lately and I swear it has helped the PN <3
  • Great! @Caz1 added incentive to know its supported by science!
  • @shs14 thanks will definitely watch it, I’m walking every day too, it really helps me.
  • It was a great episode, and I'm glad to see it brought up again, to let all those coming behind us know about it.
