Ex-Med hope
Those of you who've been around for long enough might remember me moaning about the lack of exercise physiologists around where I live. There were none. One set up shop last year and my GP, in a desperate attempt to keep me swallowing my AIs, sent me for 5 subsidised appointments. Which was a lovely idea, but it would have been more helpful two years ago.
Anyway, there are two EPs in the business and one is a newish graduate who has a special interest in cancer--a module about dealing with cancer treatment has recently been added to their studies.
What started as a general discussion about how they could be asking cancer survivors a different set of questions in their initial interview has morphed into a series of meetings about program structure and how their business might benefit from making visits more affordable. We won't go if we can't afford it and a 10 week program, even with subsidies, is still over $300. Money well spent. If you have it.
That led to an investigation into partnerships with the council owned facilities and grant opportunities. Which led us to Ex-Med. They've both done breast cancer training and are now going to do the Ex-Med course. Ex-Med is looking at expanding into country areas. It's looking really promising. The hospital is behind the idea and I have my contacts in the Council showing some interest.
It will all come down to financial viability, but fingers crossed. If they can get this up and running I will so be doing the happy dance. Or at least my creaky seized up version of it.
