my oncologist has prescribed Effexor to help with night sweats/ hot flushes and sadness. What time is best to take it?

If you Google the brand of the drug and the name for ''patient information'' you will find the paperwork which the pharmacist should give you the first time you get the prescription filled. If you live nearby, go back to the pharmacy and ask for that and ask them to talk you though it.
As @viking1 says, the chemist are far more up to date with medications - doctors just prescribe the ones the pharmaceutical companies hand out to them as freebies.
