Eek my toenails!

Day 9,second chemo cycle, and the nails on my big toes are lifting up at the base.Yuk! They have changed colour too.My finger tips and tips of my toes are having short bursts of pins and needles as well.I didn't notice this the first cycle.Anyway, these are the only 2 new things I have noticed.Hope everyone is well.Cheers Robyn.
  • I didn't hear about painting my nails dark until after I started to lose them :( so I don't know whether it works or not.
  • Nice to hear from u Jen!I have had my nails painted black the whole time!So much for that theory lol.I am doing ok otherwise Jen.I keep a diary every day, just to compare each round, and definitely this time,my tiredness has been a bit worse. It started on day 5 and I really only feel ok today, which is day 12.I had a couple of days when I was really tired.I have still walked every day though,so I can't be that bad right?;) I know what u mean about going over the same thing with people! When I am out walking,I keep my head down and look straight ahead, hoping not to see anyone!Actually I have been a bit grumpy and short with my husband and daughter, for no real reason, and I keep telling myself to be nicer!I just can't seem to help it.i am finding this round that the emotional side of it has come in to play a bit more.Nice to know u r doing ok Jen.Take care of yourself and enjoy your weekend too.xoxoRobyn
  • Sorry to hear this Robyn......thanks for preparing me if/when this happens to me!

Janey, is this why I have heard others mention to paint dark nail polish on your nails???? I am on same treatmen Robyn, so I guess we just have to see how each of us differs or has the same reactions!

So, not only do we probably need to wear wigs and scarves in summer...now we got to wear closed shoes too????? On well......

How are you feeling otherwise Robyn? As nice as it is to receive texts by friends to ask how we are doing, it becomes so tedious to go over the same thing all the time don't you agree (or am I just a grouch?)

Hope you all have a nice, sunny, bright and happy weekend!

  • Hi Robyn,

Turns out, issues with finger and toe nails are quite common while being treated with certain chemotherapy drugs.

BCNA developed some good info on this issue, which you can find on our website here - http://www.bcna.org.au/new-diagnosis/treatment/chemotherapy/nail-changes

The info includes practical tips from other women to help you get by.

Oh, and you might find these blog posts by other women useful...

    Good luck,

  • It is annoying how Chemo drugs seem to have different effects each cycle. You just find out how to deal with one lot of effects and then they change! I guess the body does not get back to 'normal' each time so has a few new weaknesses each cycle. The pins and needles in your fingers and toes is probably a bit of neuropathy. Let your oncologist know about this next visit. I still have slight numbness in some of my toes and tips of the fingers. Makes me more clumsy with things like buttons! The toe nails sound painful. I was lucky to avoid this side effect. Keep looking after yourself. Deanne xxxx
