It must be terribly difficult with a young family while you are having chemo. I had 6 rounds starting in June last year and was very glad that my family were pretty much independent (18 and 20 at the time).
Most of the chemo drugs pass through our system in the first 48 hours but they say to be careful hygiene wise for 7 days. Things like preparing food should not be a problem but just be careful of overdoing it. This is one time in your life where you need to look after yourself and let others help. Just for the week of chemo try to sit back and do only the bare minimum. It is only a few days each round but you will recover more quickly if you don't push yourself. Your body is going through a lot and rest is very important.
I asked my oncologist about sweat being toxic and she said that it would only be a problem if you were sweating to the extent where you needed to change your clothing. I washed all my clothes seperately for the week after each chemo to be on the safe side. I also used a seperate toilet to the rest of the family and cleaned it really well after that week of chemo. For my own safety regarding low immunity, I was very careful with washing hands and general hygiene.
The chemo nurses are terrific sources of information and never mind answering any questions you may have. I too had the foggy brain so would write down questions to ask each time. This network is a great source of good info and advice too, so please post about anything that you are concerned about. There is always someone who had been in the same situation to help out. Let us know how you go. Take care. Deanne xxx
