DVT

Hi all, I have DVT on my elbow arm area n in fact there are 2 clots on my arm n still having active chemo treatment. So I have been on blood thinner tablets for a month now n I just had an ultrasound check on my DVT. The clots are still here. I just wondered anybody with DVT ever get their blood clot cleared or it will be forever? I m worrying there are other clots area that I m not aware of. Appreciate your input to share your experience with DVT. Thanks.

  • It wasn’t in her arm but my mum had multiple clots in her lungs from suspected DVT, and had to go on blood thinners for months (in her case it was the injections but this was before the BC), but they have all cleared up and she’s off blood thinners unless she flies then only for a couple of days per flight. Depending on the circumstances, it can take months or medication adjustment, but yes typically with treatment the clots go away. I’m not a doctor, just lived experience with my circle 🌺
  • For sure it is stressful but trust your medical team. They know what they are doing. Best wishes and hope it goes away fast
  • @Cath62 thanks for your response. I really hope they will go away asap. Constantly worrying that it may travel to lungs or heart.
  • @Locksley Thanks for the info. I'm on tablets twice daily from the start..so not sure whether it will be much slower to break down with tablets.
  • I had blood clots and I had twice  daily clexene injections for 6 months then switched to tablets twice daily for 6 months.   They went away thank goodness.
  • They usually break down with the thinners. The hospital will continue to monitor with ultrasound to help manage it all until they are gone. Best wishes
