Doxycycline

Hi everyone, I haven't posted in awhile but enjoy reading any new daily advice and updates.  I'm on my ninth weekly Taxol treatment this week with one more cycle to go.  I have tolerated the treatment quite well and have cold capped every week retaining most of my hair and fortunately able to exercise every day.  Fatigue has been my major problem and a acne rash that has got worse across my forehead, which my Breast Care Nurse/Oncologist addressed today with a prescription for Doxycycline.  Just interested to hear if anyone else has been put on this drug.  I have kept to the same routine for the last two months and don't want to throw a spanner in the works with another drug in my system when everything has been going quite well.

  • Actually check about sun and doxy as well. I recall it makes you sun sensitive as does chemo. I am ok now re neuropathy. It has taken well over a year to get feeling back in my toes but I have feeling back mostly so I am really pleased.
  • @wendy55 I'm in the sun everyday exercising and being in Brissy it has been quite warm and sunny.  I did read those side effects. Thanks for your support.
  • @Cath62 sorry to hear about your neuropathy, unfortunately a common side effect from what I have heard and read.  I will chat to my Oncologist tomorrow at my chemo session regarding Doxy or just ride it out for the last cycle. Thanks for commenting.
  • Hi@Chrissy1121,
I have been prescribed this drug as well, its used for various reasons as a general purpose anti biotic,it stated on the bottle that you must not lay down for an hour you have to be upright and I think you also have to be very careful about being in the sun,m congratulations on getting this far and yippee only one more cycle to go.

  • I have taken this drug when travelling to malaria infested places. It seems used for lots of purposes. I never took it during chemo but didn't have an acne rash. I hope it helps you clear that up. I was due to have 10 rounds of taxol but only made it to 9 because of neuropathy. Good luck with the rest of your treatment. You are doing well getting through it.
