I was diagnosed with breast cancer December 12, 2018. My double mastectomy is scheduled for Thursday. I am both anxious and sad. My thoughts are racing and I'm trying to keep my anxiety low, with not much luck. I understand the feelings are normal, I just need to be able to get a handle on the anxiety.

@Sharon01 I hope you have "nursing" support at home. Not surprised that you feel weird. Do take great care of yourself. Try to walk around a little bit several times a day. Don't stint on pain relief. Eat well. Drink lots of water. Cry if you need to. Don't hesitate to express your feelings here. We all understand. xox Fran

@Sharon01 I am sorry you had to find us but this is the most supportive site you could have found. The ladies here have helped me more than I could have ever imagined. I had a single sided mastectomy two weeks ago. I am not going to be flippant about it. The mental coming to terms takes awhile. Whilst I am not grieving, I am at a bit of a loss to understand myself. The pain was not near what I expected. More uncomfortable than anything else. The lymph node clearance was a bit more painful, but again, very manageable. Lots of snuggle hugs and know that you can get on here and be supported even when you are cranky. We all get it.

@SoldierCrab could you put up your links.Hi and welcome.Oh such a short time to gather your head but I was so happy to have the cancer cut out of me. It will give you healing time over Xmas then start any other treatment needed in New Year if you need any. Kath x

Thanks all. The surgery went well. To my surprise I was released the following day. It has been 2 days since I was discharged and still feel weird.

Welcome to this site. It's such a shock to the system but we are here for any questions, support and the odd laugh. Try to take things one at a time and remember to breathe.

Hope you are continuing well, @Sharon01 - the anaesthetic may make you drowsy for a few days, too, so if you feel tired - allow yourself to nod off, even during the day.

@Sharon01 - Hoping all has gone well with your surgery - make sure you keep pumping that pain killer button (if you have one) and taking your meds regularly, when offered!

Make haste slowly ..... you'll be able to get back doing stuff 'as you are able'.

Rest up, take care (if you have the little pillows to help support your arms,
they are a great help.) If not, ask your Breast Care Nurse about them!

Hope it all went well @Sharon01 and that you are resting comfortably. Take the painkillers, do the exercises when you're given the nod, and if your hospital has a garden (and the weather co-operates), ask your doctor if you can do you walking in that - beats the hospital corridors hands-down.

@iserbrown You just made me laugh with that saying. We looked after my son in laws dog for a couple weeks. Big boofy thing. What is a glass door? What is a fence? All built to go through obviously.
