Hi Lispy, my GP ordered an MRI form me to take to my initial appointment with my surgeon. I was diagnosed with a 13mm invasive dictator carcinoma in my left breast only and the mammogram showed right side was clear. However, the MRI gives a more thorough image and he wanted to make sure there was no "unstable tissue" in my right breast plus get confirmation that there was only the one cancer in my left. It also gave my surgeon a better understanding of the exact size and location. The MRI took about an hour, was seriously noisy!! and cost $500 (no rebate).
But it gave me complete peace of mind in choosing just a left mastectomy and not bi-lateral. Hope all goes well for you Lispy, keep us updated. Best wishes, Jane xx
