Diagnosis
At 41 I was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 weeks ago and had a lumpectomy 2 days ago and lymph nodes removed. My breast nurse told me to go shopping for a wig. I am still trying to absorb everyt...
Hi there Shannon, i can imagine what you are going through at the moment, and it's not much fun is it?
Things have happened so quickly for you and you haven't had a chance to marshal your thoughts yet.
I had a 2 week gap between diagnosis and mastectomy and I felt as if my head was spinning. So many appointments, scans, ultra sounds, pre-op .... the lot.
I opted for the mastecftomy and full node removal (not for everyone, but right for me) ... when my results came back clear I was ready for the next course of action. As the cancer had not spread I didn't need chemo or radiotherapy but am on Arimidex for 5 years.
Have your results come back yet and what is the prognosis? You will obviously talk with your oncologist who will point out your options.
Have you received your My Journey kit yet - if not it is available free of charge thru this BCNA site. It is full of useful information ... books that explain just what is happening with your body, a journal to record your tests, appointments and your thoughts. There is also a DVD which is great for you and your partner and family to watch together to give you all a greater understanding of what lies ahead.
This is not an easy journey you are embarking on ... it is not one of your choosing but you are surrounded by a group of women you have never met who will give you their unconditional support. We are here whenever you need our company, a shoulder to cry on or just have a chat and a "cyber-space" cuppa. - in one way or another we have all "been there, done that".
Let us know how you are getting on, what your results are, progress with your treatment etc etc. Pop in anytime, you don't need a reason to join us.
Take care of yourself ......
Cheers .... Shirl xx
