well-its tricky as each situation is different --but i had a small growth which was taken out with clear margins and a very small growth in a lymph node..I was told that the common thing is to have chemotherapy and then radiation. The chemotherapy really threw me for a six but in the next week i adjusted to it somewhat; however than my oncologist said he wouldnt recommend this and instead recommended radiation and medication. I was wondering what my reaction would be if a group of oncologists recommended chemo and my oncologist didnt--but a lot of my anxiety just vaporised and i thought ' i can do this' this feels right. however it does feel like i might be in the minority here
and of course im really in the middle of it of myself
a book i got from the llibrary about choices in breast cancer treatment is very up to date and echoed some the comments from my oncologist, as did the breast care nurse that i only spoke to once on the 'phone said that she endorsed the view that chemotherapy is overused etc
i really dont like medical intervention -ie needles etc and losing hair etc; but im glad i didnt make the decision based on fear and i went into the oncologist appt with an open mind and really feeling like chemotherapy was the standard treatment
best wishes
