Day 9

Got a call from hospital this morning my blood count too low, most likely a bacterial infection in stomach or skin. Both of which I have problems with skin sores and diahorrea. I am definitely cutting hair this afternoon, my son can do the honours, so I can get head sores under control. Need to keep eye on temp and if it raises anymore go straight to hospital. Did anyone else have to deal with infections, this is my first cycle?

  • Hi I am day 9 today of my first cycle whaa so frustrated !! Think I am kidding myself thinking I was going to feel better day 7, I had terrible diahorrea from day 1 I ate and it went straight thru me ended up in hospital for 2 days no infection tho. Today have body aches and feel my glands are up I had no contact with people only my immediate family but mainly I have been on my bed on my own. I excercised yesterday to get some energy mmm my muscles are feeling it.

I had psoriasis going into this and thankfully it has improved if that can be a benefit but I feel for you with what you are experiencing and am thinking of you as well its a nasty business this but as everyone on this site has said and helped me is we are so resilient and can endure so much and get to the other side to feeling good again.

All the best and hope to chat to you again soon.

  • I shaved as it fell out too. But went a bit to close to scalp. Note for anyone thinking of it. The wig lady said leave a very noticeable amount of hair as it helps wigs sit better. I didn't end up with a wig after fittings etc. but not necessary every hair falls out so a long clipper is all you should do if you want a wig. X

  • I shaved my hair, at last minute and then got a scalp infection, which was rare apparently.  It was aweful because I couldnt wear a hat or wig to hide it.  Took a month to clear up,  Bugga.  I recommend the cotton cap to wear that I got from the Cancer council to collect all the hair falling out, to save pillow.  Or buy a new pillow.

  • its funny, as I am almost 1 year past my chemo you forget some things that were just awful not so long ago.

I had a persistant runny nose throughout my whole chemo, my GP had me on antibiotoics but it was a sinus like side effect! It was so annoying but come 1 month after my chemo finished it was gone.

My GP was not too knowledgeable I thought and my onc advised to speak to the oncology nurses when in doubt.

    Take care

  • Going to GP tomorrow will ask him about antibiotic lotion, the more it itches the more I scratch the bigger they are getting. I hope it's not psoriasis as under my breast seems to be the same. Oh the joy, but really don't want to complain too much as there are others much worse off. Xo
  • I had infected hair folicles right at the beginning, I thought I would have this lovely shiny bald head, ahh no. Anyway my doctor gave me a antibiotic lotion and that worked fairly quickly. it never came back thank goodness. though I did have these big welt type things for a bit. I also suffered with diahorrea right through like clock work on day 5 it came with a vengence, I learned to have all the meds handy and I tell you I ate them like jelly beans. Its a roulette wheel I think, some ladies sail through and others get it all.

    Good luck and take care.
