Day 15 of RadiationTreatment !!!

I have just come back home after having had Day 15 of radiation treatment today. I haven't had any major side affects or any nausea at all, just the occasional headache and sharp, short, pains in my left breast and the radiated area, which they say is normal. My breast is still red, sore, and tender but as I have had lymphedema after surgery some months back I am very thankful that so far in my treatment I have not had any breaking skin or rashes. I do have cool showers right after treatment and the sorbolene cream is my best friend.  lol   I use it all the time and it has helped keep the area moisterized, soft, and cool. I have only 5 more " zaps " to go and I finish next week. Finally I can take a break from all things "medical" relax, and take stock of this " journey " of mine of nearly 6 months.

Yes, I feel mentally, emotionally, and physically drained but I have met some wonderful people not only on this site, but in the hospital going through bc treatments and the sharing of information, advice, and good wishes has been so important and knowing that so many others are going through similar treatments also means that together we can help and encourage each other too.  I am off to have my afternoon rest now.

Best wishes to everyone in their treatments and recovery.

  • Thank you very much for your best wishes christine. I finish radiation next week and look forward to relaxing at home and not having to go into the hospital everyday for nearly 5 weeks. But I am also happy that my lymphedema of the left breast didn't get any worse with all this radiotherapy. Apparently, the 2 weeks after radiation has finished can be difficult with side afects such as fatigue and nausea, but so far I haven't experienced anything except for the odd headache. I hope you have been well and getting plenty of rest. Best wishes to you Christine.

  • Yes, I finish radiation next wednesday and as I am already on Tamoxifen that's pretty much all treatment for me completed. I see the Oncologist again in 6 weeks to check on the breast after all the radiation I have had there, and follow ups every 4 months for the first year and then yearly after that. I hope to go on holiday in August with my husband somewhere to get away and relax from all this hectic and stressful 6 months.

Glad that you have a starting date for  the radiation in early july, it will fly by and before you know it you will be finished all treatments  and on your way to a lovely holiday in August too. What a crazy year it's been for us all but we are stronger for it.

I will be going to afew information and special days put together by my hospital and other organisations such as BreaCan on living well and lifestyle choices. including looking after our immune systems better, and reflexology and Feel good exercise programs. There is so much help and information out there that we are fortunate that we can participate and learn how to heal ourselves better. If you lived here in Melbourne Marg we could go together. Tai chi sounds like fun too and helps to relax and calm the mind and body. lol

Look after yourself and I hope you continue to keep well and also get some rest before your final chemo in afew weeks time. Best wishes to you Marg.

  • So glad everything is going well for you & hope the lymphedema settles down for you:) I wish you well through this next week of rads :) take care... Christine:) xox
  • Yes, I am almost finished radiation. My last "zap" will be next Wednesday. I have already started with the hormone therapy and that's going well too with no side affects except the odd hot flush. My husband wants to take me on a little trip in August just not sure where just yet. Hopefully by then my lymphedema and redness of my left breast will have eased. It is very tender and feels so heavy. But I have done well and now I need to lose some weight and look after my general health better and focus on healthier lifestyle.  Best wishes to you too Tonya.

  • Thanks Robyn. It has definitely been a rather long 6 months for me but next week I finish and as I am already taking Tamoxifen my treatment will be all completed.. I was told today that I will see my Oncologist 6 weeks after my last radiation treatment and have a mammogram every 4 months for up to a year with scans, mammograms, and blood tests done 6 months and then yearly. I have registered to attend afew information and workshops over the next few months as I want to focus on healing. Some of the sessions will be " Live Well" and " Your Immune System and Cancer." i want to try a free Refexology session too as I have heard so much about it. There's also a ' Feel good gentle exercise programs too. Glad that you have been well and that Tamoxifen is going well for you too Robyn.

  • so glad things are going pretty well for you and you will soon be finished your treatment and be able to give your body and mind some time to mend. I am looking at starting my radio on the 8th July so am happy to have dates and also soon be able to be at the end of my journey (except for tamoxifen). keep going well and good wishes for the last few of your therapies.

I agree that this site and its supports and friendships have been SO important and will continue to be for me.

I am off to work today before I hit the wall tomorrow and have to rest up for a few days.
