D Day: Surgery
Well it's gone!
I had my mastectomy this morning and I am feeling pretty good with very little pain. Hope I haven't spoke to soon. My doctor says there was no complications and everything was straig...
Thankyou, I do feel like I've won the lottery :) but having said that, I know that I am extremely lucky!!
I did do an awful lot of research after my diagnosis, as well as obviously discussing my options with my surgeon and other women who had had the same diagnosis. I found out that I did have a good chance of avoiding radiation and chemo if I was aggressive with it from the get go and have the full mastectomy. As I said, I am very lucky, I did get the outcome I wanted. I know the outcome certainly isn't the same for a lot of other people. But it's good to know there is the chance.
I again discussed post-op treatment options with my surgeon, but we both agreed the side effects of the hormone drugs outweighed the benefits and opted for close monitoring instead.
Was your diagnosis DCIS too? Are you in a rural area?...is that why the time frame for reconstruction is 5 years?
I have my fingers and toes crossed for you for your results! I hope the next few days go quickly for you, keep yourself busy and best of luck xx I would love to hear how things turn out if you get the chance and I will let you know how my journey progresses too :)
