cysts

Hi Tania At my last mammogram before diagnosis, I had multiple cysts. Over 30 in one breast and 20 odd in the other. I would find that they would come and go and it was also depend on where I was in my period cycle. That's how they found my tumour. I developed a large cyst overnight and it was very painful and I thought I would need to have it aspirated. I went straight to my gp and he sent me to see the breast surgeon the same day. He aspirated the cyst but it didn't disappear. A needle biopsy confirmed 20mm cancer. After a mammogram and ultrasound they found 3 more tumours, two of which were also positive. No one could actually feel them even though one of them was 8mm and the other 3mm. I'm in the same boat as you. I never know what to think. What's a new lump? I am just extremely aware of what my breasts feel like and look like. If I notice a change that does not settle after a day, I go to the doctor and get him to check. I was diagnosed in April last year and am still receiving treatment so I still have many professionals around me that I can refer to if I'm worried. I'm lucky that I have a very good gp. I know if I went in with a concern he would err on the side of caution if he thought there might be a problem. It's horrible, this feeling of OMG I have a new ache, lump or whatever else, is it cancer? I'm actually not sure how you stop this or whether it is part and parcel of all of this. We have good reason to feel the way we do and I don't think any gp would begrudge you getting anything out of the ordinary checked out.
