Cycle 1 day 8

My first cycle started with a rough patch as the night before I had a migraine so was vomiting and couldn't keep the DEXA down. I was just getting over an infection because of my lymph gland surgery as well. My apt was at 12:30 and even though I wasn't able to keep anything down we went ahead! I got an extra cocktail made up of DEXA as well as the other anti nausea meds and the T and C. for the first few days after chemo was flying high, lots of energy couldn't sleep and generally a feeling of well being. Then it happened I dropped when I couldn't keep taking the steroids. I suppose not too bad but my feeling of well being disappeared. All of a sudden dizziness, nausea, sore lips and roof of mouth, diahorrea, just to name a few. I even fainted when out, not a great experience but I think it may have been a bit of anxiety as well? I am still injecting myself which I think stops in a few days. I had a blood test today to see how travelling. I wake up every morning and check the pillow to see if there are any clumps of hair, nothing as yet, from what I can see it looks like 2nd or 3rd week. My head is very itchy and I have developed a few head sores so not sure if I will last until it falls out! might settle for shaving it before. I saw my radiation oncologist yesterday and that is scheduled for 3 weeks after last chemo if all goes as planned. Now I can plan for a finish date and work towards that. I am going to try and work from home a little from tomorrow on, will see how I go. Lucky I have that option.

  • Inspired going to do it today. I think it will be liberating. Thanks for the offer of coffee, may take you up on that when I get a handle on my treatment. Xo
  • I had my husband shave mine off, I had a head full of sores and it was so itchy and falling out, so off it came. I admit I was in tears but it felt so much better and once it was off and the lotion from the doctor went on the sores cleared up really quickly.

I know how it feels to get the terrible side effects I seemed to get them all, let me know if you need a coffee catch up or anything.

    Sending you hugs

  • Thanks Robyn, I'm sure it will it is just the unknown which is daunting. I've got the look better feel good thing on Monday so thinking I might get rid of my hair before then. My scalp is very itchy and little sores appearing, I have been rubbing aloe Vera gel into it so it won't be all scabs when it finally does come off. I would rather have it shaved than let it fall out over a period of time.
  • Hi Rosanna Thanks so much for your response, I have been having soup as it is easy on the mouth. The top of my mouth feels burnt, I know it's not but that's how it feels. I'm gargling all the time too. I haven't drank a lot of juice, more water but will get some tomorrow. Like you I am thinking of shaving my head before it falls out, my head is itchy and already got some sores. I am going to the Look Better Feel Good on Monday so might do it before then. I have really thick hair so looking forward to not having to wash it and dry it. Got to be some bonuses! Its the unknown which is scary but a lot of strong women have gone before us and this site is fantastic for support. Keep in touch as we are on the same path same time so really keen to know how you go. Wendy xo
  • I hope your next round will be a little easier:) I used to check my pillow for hair too, then on day 14, I rubbed my eyebrows, because they felt itchy, and they almost all came out straight away, followed by my hair about an hour later. It took my hair a couple of weeks to all come out.Usually from about day 9 or 10 you should start to feel better.Take care.Cheers Robyn xox
