  • I'm currently part of the EXPERT trial. It just started in 2017, runs for 10 years, is  largely observational and they like to ask you to become part of it before active treatment starts. But is only for early stage, hormone positive, luminal A type, low risk. Genomic test is done (prosigna) to gauge risk score and cancer type but you won't find out risk score, neither do the researchers. They may release that info within the 10 years. I hope they do as it would be interesting to factor that in for the researchers in the rates of recurrence.  Just one thing to note though...you must be totally comfortable with the idea of not having radiation if you are randomised into that group (like me).
  • I hope that it will suit some - particularly newbies who may be more likely to fit the screening criteria?  Well worth asking their Rad Onc/surgeon about the trials.

And the participating hospitals are noted at the bottom.

Yes, I liked the look of EXPERT too!!  If I'd been asked about it with my treatment - I may well have said yes to that one!!

I was only asked if I wanted to go on one trial where I wouldn't know if my Hormone Inhibitor tablets were real or fake - and I declined it!  Having Invasive Lobular - I didn't want to take the chance of being given fake ones!!  (I wonder why!)

I have a few friends who've only had surgery (one had immediate recon during the surgery on the UK health system for no cost), no radiation & no tablets - and 2 are still happily bouncing around 20 years later!!

One was in the UK & the other in Zimbabwe - both had excellent results from their surgery only.
  • The EXPERT trial looks of particular interest for many here, based on many of the discussions we've had lately, radiation, recurrence, genomic testing, early breast cancer.

1,680,000 people worldwide being diagnosed with BC every year. What a number.
