Some ladies who have had a mastectomy and are not comfortable in their silicone prosthesis may not yet have heard of the cotton prosthesis being made and gifted by some very caring and clever ladies. Some ladies knit them and some crochet them. Julie Nicoll is the Coordinator of the Aussie Knockers Project, Dragons Crystal Bears, Women in League Committee. Julie can be contacted on the following email address: <aussieknockers@outlook.com> ChristineM (a BCNA member who has had BC) has also been busy crocheting these wonderful prosthesis for ladies who have had a mastectomy. Christine has made mine for me. My first try was on a 38 degree day and it was so much cooler than my silicone one. It can be worn in an ordinary (non pocketted) bra and there was none of that annoying upwards drift ! I will attach a photo for ladies who have not seen the cotton prosthesis - bear in mind it had just come out of the post bag so had not taken on my shape and size. These can be made with or without a little nipple. I am sure ChristineM or Julie Nicoll will happily help others who are in search of alternatives to the silicone prosthesis. Thanks for the info Summer. I would definitely be keen to look into the cotton prothsesis. I am about to have a bilateral mastectomy & just hate the feel of anything synthetic against my skin. Most of the clothing I buy is 100% cotton. Robyn, can you let me know how you go?

Dear Ladies I am sooooo pleased with my cotton prosthesis for all the reasons I said and I am just so glad I found ChristineM's comment about them on this website - don't ask me where it was but it was there ! Hi Christine

I have been reading the replies on Robyn W's "My new pink boob" post as well as this one.

Seems you have had heaps of requests for cotton prosthesis which is great but I hope you are not too over-loaded !

Thank you to BCNA for featuring my blog as this is helping to get the word out about a great alternative to the often uncomfortable silicone variety.

All recipients are delighted with their new boobs which is fantastic - a great service being provided by a great lady.

Hi Christine

We have a hot 35 degrees today and "Miss Rightie" had her first big day out shopping.

She performed very well, even when reaching up to high shelves in the supermarket.

She is cool and soft and comfortable - and YOU are a very clever caring lady.

Wish I could knit like that as they are so good to wear.

OHi summer I have kept them. I think they are a c cup but not sure. I'd be more than happy to pass them onto someone who could use them. I was thrilled when I was presented with them from another patient. It was so nice that she thought of me. I will try to upload a photo. Karen

Have you kept the knitted knockers as a party trick, kept them in case you need them one day or have you thrown them out ?

I am wondering what size they are and if you could possibly pass them on to someone who needs them, especially someone who has a problem with the silicone ones or who, for some reason such as uneven scarring, is unable to be measured for a silicone prosthesis.

Perhaps you can post of picture of them ? I am guessing yours are knitted rather than crocheted ?

It is good to know you thought they were soft.
