Coping with waiting for stereotactic biopsy and test results having had DCIS previously

I had high grade DCIS many years ago and after recent mammogram have been rung and told they have found linear calcifications with cluster of calcifications at bottom which is different from mammogram a year ago, it's 2.5cm and I require a stereotactic biopsy and if it's a papillary lesion will require surgery to remove and test lesion (had surgery 2018 to remove a papillary lesion which turned out to be not cancer).  Not afraid of biopsy or surgery but am torturing myself it's cancer back again.  Am very very anxious and the waiting is killing me.  Stereotactic biopsy booked for 14th Nov.  I am 72 and in a new relationship and have been married for 4 yrs, Xmas is not far away and I'm not handling stress very well.  Have read everything I can find on ways to stay calm but only works for short time. Appreciate any ideas on coping with waiting.

Hi @Squirrel626262, I have tided up the discussion for you (Glad you worked out how to post to the main page). We hear from many people like yourself on our Helpline during this 'waiting' period and our team would be more than happy to point you in the right direction for support. As mentioned above, the Helpline number is 1800 500 258
  • So sorry @Squirrel626262. Waiting sucks and our minds just run away with all the worst possible scenarios. Try to keep busy, do things you enjoy so you don't think of it so much. Exercise is always great too.

I hope you family support you at this time. Best wishes for the results.
  • I am SO sorry that you are going thru this again @Squirrel626262 .... perhaps give the Helpline a call tomorrow during business hours, (they are not open on the weekend) and chat with one of the mods/counsellors ..... 1800 500 258 .....

Sadly, the waiting always sucks and of course the possibility of a new diagnosis brings back all the memories of your first diagnosis too  :(   I hope that your husband and family & friends are being supportive of you at this time xx

Perhaps, jump onto this thread & read up on a few other areas of the forum, that may help alleviate some of your stress xx
