Collagen powder
just wondering if anyone has tried collagen powder? I have just brought some hoping will help my nails and skin and some other side effects of tamoxifen, joint pain. I had hormone positive breast cancer but have read it should be okay still,as is plain collagen with nothing else in it, wondering if anyone else has had success with it?

- kezmuscMemberEvening primrose is ok as long as you get just that. Sometimes they add other sneaky stuff in it. Check the about herbs app.
- kmakmMemberMy hands and nails were wrecked by chemo. Two years later they are still not normal. Soft, flaky, constantly flaky. The doctor said it wasn't Letrozole, that it was more likely to be the chemo damage.
I've tried two Hair & Nails supplements, and the second one (below) was much better. It's been a month since I finished the bottle and so far, so good. If/when they start flaking again I'll be back on them. - Milly21MemberMy oncologist said evening primrose ok ,I tried that and fish oil but always made my hair and skin really oily and greasy, probably works well for others though,my oncologist said soy is ok,it’s hard because a lot of doctors say different things. Last gp I saw said I should be vegan,I suppose they all have their own personal opinions to.
- Dory65MemberI asked my oncologist about taking collagen and other supplements whilst taking Tamoxifen. High doses of Vitamin C got a definite NO GO. Ordinary doses of standard Vitamin C tablets are OK. Do not take anything containing estrogen. Doc wasn't sure about soy foods or Evening Primrose Oil. Basically, avoid anything containing estrogen. Collagen got a raised eyebrow and an OK but watch out if you have fish allergies. I'm going to see a dietitian. Phytoestrogens are in heaps of healthy foods. Presumably they are OK. I will try collagen for skin, hair and nails if need be. Sally Obermeder supplements are too expensive, though. I'm thinking omega 3 oil capsules would be beneficial, and help sore joints. I bet all of this has already been tried and tested by others on this forum.
- primekMemberI always assumed Sally was estrogen positive due to her comments that her Dr said a second natural pregnancy would put her life at risk. I always assumed it was the hormone changes due to that comment. Maybe it was the long term effects of chemo on her body not being able to support another baby safely.
- Milly21MemberI will have to read her book I love Sally Obermeder . I’ve only been taking the powder about a week, really hoping it helps with my nails as they just snap off and my skin so dry I rub handfuls oil into it.
- duxx1234Member@Hi Milly 21 I have also started using the Swiish Collagen powder but it’s still too early to really see any results, though my fingernails are looking better and appear to be much stronger! I also take Swiish Supergreen Powder every morning! I started on this as soon as I finished active treatment (I’m TNBC, so no hormone treatment) and I’m sure it has helped me a lot. Sally Obermeder from Swiish is also a TNBC survivor and I feel sure she would not be recommending products that might be harmful to breast cancer survivors. Her book ‘Never Stop Believing’ was very inspirational for me.
- primekMemberI'm taking collagen tablets. I'm doing this for my skin which has changed in the last few years. It's too soon to tell if helping or not with restaining moisture. I take a multivitamin which really made a big difference with my nails and made them much less fragile.
- Milly21MemberIt’s the one Sally Obermeder sells
