Claxane injections

Hi all... Hope everyone is well. I am writing this from my hospital bed after getting a very sore back and short of breath day 5 after my second chemo. Hoping to go home today, 5 days after admission. I have been diagnosed with two clots on my lungs and have started on Claxane injections twice a day. A great way to overcome my needle phobia. This morning with a few tears I injected myself. My understanding is that I will be on the injections twice daily through chemo then once daily for life. Would love to hear from anyone who had clots during chemo or anyone taking Claxane. I have been told I need to be careful with cuts, bruising etc. I'm not sure if I need to avoid any foods etc like you do on warfarin. I'm hoping my chemo will go ahead like it's scheduled but with close monitoring. Thanks Mel xx

    Thanks Denice. It is getting easier each day though I still get the odd day where I don't really want to play the needle game. I see my oncologist this Thursday to discuss and review my treatment with my third chemo scheduled for Friday. If it stays the same I have two more fortnightly chemos then 12 weeklies. I feel a bit uptight this time around though think I'm just worried I'll get so sick with the clots again. It was really quite frightening how quickly I felt so out of breath and the pain in my back was quite challenging too. I'm really hoping it was just a one off Hope you are feeling ok. Mel :)

    I have secondary cancer but got a pulmonary embolous whilst on chemo. (clots). That was about 4 years ago, Im on Clexane but its just another thing to do each day....like cleaning your teeth. I hope it gets easier for you

    Thanks for your comment. A major breakthrough this morning... I woke.., grabbed my injection and administered it without a single tear... The last few days I've been that worked up... Tears flowing, clammy and nearly fainting. I don't have a partner and didn't want to put the responsibility on my children. Feels good to have a little bit of control over my health :) Mel

    Thanks for your comment. A major breakthrough this morning... I woke.., grabbed my injection and administered it without a single tear... The last few days I've been that worked up... Tears flowing, clammy and nearly fainting. I don't have a partner and didn't want to put the responsibility on my children. Feels good to have a little bit of control over my health :) Mel

    You poor thing, it never ends does it? I too was on clexane for 4 months due to a clot around the cathater on my port a chath. I was on injections morning and night but I had my husband give them to me as I just couldnt stab myself ! Just had to be careful not to cut myself etc as I would bleed. There was no restrictions on my diet. The only problen I had was that I was very prone to nose bleeds. That and trying to find a new spot for the needle that wasnt bruised ! Hopefully all will be well for you , let me know how you go . Regards Hilary xo
