hi everyone
i have now been givin the all clear from the surgeon so chemo to start after easter my cocktail is Taxotere(R) and Cycloblastin(R) if anyone has had those can they let me know any bad side effects or any sort of advise on how to keep those affects at bay i am having 4 treatments so in a way i'm glad its starting now so i can get it over with.......pamela is looking pretty good and i'm feeling really good considering

I had the sorest eyes. Get yourself some drops - worked wonders. I won't even go there with the aching. I felt so strange that it was hiliarious. I had made a bed up in the lounge room on the floor and couldn't get up without help for the first couple of days. This time it will be compounded as I will be having the neulasta injection the day after chemo. It works on making marrow in your bones to stop the neutropena but oh dear it really hurts and it is quite weird and painful but there is always a pill to help fix it. Again I will say it is doable. Hi Sharon, Can't comment on the C drug but Taxetare is nasty. But if you can figure that the first two weeks are bloody awful and look forward to having a good week at the end of the cycle then that's your bonus. I am back for my second round tomorrow. I survived the first round with 6 nights in isolation in hospital because my bloods went down. Other than that I did okay. I never threw up but had trouble with going to the toilet. You need to drink LOTS of water - I found through a straw was easier; have fresh fruit and vege juice (if you able ie pineapple, carrot, apple, celery and ginger) rinse your mouth out as often as possible; get plenty of rest as soon as you get home from treatment; make sure your bowels open daily; and take care of NUMBER ONE. It is really important to take your temperature at least 3 to 4 times a day and if it goes up to 38 you need to contact your oncology nurses asap. This is especially important around the 7-10 days after chemo when your bloods can go down. We don't want to scare you and you will get through but it is a challenge. I found that I really had to "invest" all my energy into looking after myself ie cleaning teeth/mouth, eating/drinking well, taking temperature and of course hygiene. The oncology nurses will "clue you up" on it all. Fill your pantry with things that you think might be inviting to eat, keep away from sick people and look forward to the 3rd week!!!!!! I got really teary the first couple of days but I reckon a lot of this was the anticipation of the "unknown" effects of the chemo working on my body. As Tonya said you feel like a truck has run over you and the chemo seems to find all the vunerable sore parts of your body but this passes with time. I have kept a daily diary so will use this as a reference this time. Best of luck - if I can do it I know that you can!!!XLeonie PS as soon as I hit week 3 my hair starting falling out. I have it cut to a crew cut but need to shave it today. Bloody nuisance falling everywhere. Amazingly I don't have an issue with the hair loss but if it takes for ages to come back then I might get Peeved.
