Chemo to start
hi ladies, my chemo is to start on Monday I was just wondering what I'm in for if anyone can let me know it would be terrific and any hints/ideas on how to handle some of the things that might arise....
If you were sent a Breast Cancer pack it would be a good idea to keep a diary. I found it helpful as I experienced so many things each time & found it good to look back on. The first round I had terrible itchiness but couldn't scratch due to lymph nodes being removed & trying not to draw blood, tummy ache & the runs, pain - heels, feet, dry heels with the skin peeling. Nobody tells you about the pain, no nausea thank goodness, mouth ulcers & the worst of all is loss of taste. Everything tasted horrible so lots of milk drinks like egg flips, thick milkshakes etc to keep up nourishment. I found a pattern of day 3-4 until day 7-9 the worst time before I started to feel better but each treatment took longer to get over.
I also made sure I got up and dressed, lay on the lounge. Staying in bed you are more likely to not bother getting drinks, in the loungeroom you tend to drink more.
All the best as you go through chemo, it is nasty but you will forget how crappy you feel when you've finished. You just remember it being draining. There is an end to it but if you can attend a Look Good Feel Better course you might meet some chemo ladies & being together during your treatment makes all the difference. Deb
