Chemo question ; AC-T. What’s the difference?

Hi lovelies,
This Friday I am having my final (no 4) dose of AC.  Overall it hasn’t been as bad as expected but  dose 3 knocked me around a bit.  Seems to be cumulative. Next up is 12 weeks of weekly Paclitaxel. YAY.  NOT.....

My onco tells me the Paclitaxel wont knock me around as much. Is this true?  What’s the difference?
I would have thought weekly doses were pretty bad too....
Puppy is arriving in 3 weeks, and I’m wondering how I’m going to be feeling!

  • Thanks @Afraser, did affect your energy levels much? Did you bounce back quicker after it?
  • What an adorable puppy @Caz1! Just a little jealous! Will be interested to see how you find Paclitaxel as I will be heading down that path eventually. Hope it treats you kindly. 😘
  • Most people find Taxol easier than A/C but as I had a comparatively easy run with A/C I found Taxol irritating and also got peripheral neuropathy. Most pn clears up after treatment but it’s worth asking about what you can do to minimise impact, cold mittens/socks etc. Taxol can also be hard on soft tissues - nose, eyes, taste buds can be sensitive but again, it’s short term. None of it had a major impact (I worked throughout) just annoying! Count it down, once you get to 6 you are half way there! Best wishes.
  • Hi @suburbangirl, thanks- we have a few names in mind  but we thought we’d wait and see what suited once we got him.  :)
  • Hi @Caz1
I am unable to answer your question but wanted to say good luck with your beautiful new puppy. Have you thought of a name yet? (Boy or girl?)
So pleased you are feeling ok.
  • Its a different chemical. The T stands for Taxol. It used to be given in four doses (like the AC) but they figured out that people can tolerate the treatment better when it is given weekly.
Most people seem to find it easier than the AC
