Chemo no. 5 underway!!

Ok so l did say l'd check in tonight if l could. I was very nervous about this chemo as it is the first of the Paclitaxol, & even though the medical pros have said it's no worse than the AC l was on previously, the majority of people who have actually had it have not had much to say about it that's good. Mum is here & behaving herself so far, we came into the hospital & the nurse went about accessing my port... once again, it would flush, but no blood...aaargh! Another nurse checked it & said she wasn't happy about the placement of the needle, so it had to come out...thankfully they let me do my emla cream again, 2nd time it went in & flushed & gave blood & l was so happy l cried! I was trying so hard to be brave, but soooo frustrating when things don't work out as they should. They were monitoring me closely for the first 15min in case there was a reaction, but thankfully nothing. Due to the holdups with the port & waiting for bloodwork, they didn't start the chemo til 7pm ( l was admitted at 1pm !) So lm still hooked up to it now. Luckily l have a private room, so no room mates to contend with! So fingers crossed it goes ok, l still have the horrible Nulasta injection tomorrow (l hate them!) & the bone pain which l know will follow...but really hoping my body tolerates it ok & they don't have to reduce the dose & increase the number of treatments! But so far, it's ok! Yay!

  • Hi sweety, going through a few dramas I see, that's normal.  I think you are handling everything so well, and rolling with the punches, as we all do.  I had Taxotere, and I had the cold gloves on for that as it ruins your nails.   I religiously covered my nails in nail hardener Revitanail as advised, and nails are fine.  I had to self inject Neulasta, and was a sook, and asked for the community nurse to come over and watch me do it to see if I got it right.  I had !  I recall the aches, and managed them with consistently taking paracetamol, max of 8 per day, I had to write down when I had taken them, to remember, taking them consistently is advised during that time.  No a great idea to stop and start with paracetamol.  The joints gave me a bit of grief after, so now I am taking Flaxseed Oil in Capsule form which for all of you Omega fans, is double the benefit of Fish Oil !!  Good luck, and if I can get through it all, and go back to work, so can you (smile). x Bel

  • Hope it goes well for you. I had the horrible reaction with Taxotere. It was instant though. 42mls into infusion. I was eventually able to have it with anti histamines. I got the bone aches too. At least you know it's doing its job. Hard to think of that when in pain. Good luck brave girl. Paula x
