Chemo No. 5 done, 1 to go.

Hi everyone,

I hope you are feeling as good as possible.

I had my 2nd last chemo today, I think I can see the light at the end now. The previous 3 weeks haven't been great, I have to admit. A throat infection threw eveything out for me. When all the side effects seemed to hit me at once, I could feel my depression trying to get a hold as well.

I basically held up a white flag and took to my bed. I was waiting for that last 7 days or so of feeling better but it was late arriving, and I managed to get only 3 days of ok.

My taste has not returned to normal and I have been told it probably won't until a month after chemo finishes. But at least I am making myself eat and drink as I don't want to be admitted to hospital again.

Saw the lovely social worker at the hospital today and she said she felt I was coping well, and a couple of days in bed didn't mean my depression had taken hold. People without depression would be feeling down with all these side effects, that comforted me in the sense that it's not just me.

So I'm feeling a lot brighter. I know the side effects will return in a few days time but I'm going to be more pro-active this time and go on the offensive. I realised that waiting and then acting was not very beneficial.

I still have radiotherapy and hormone treatment to do but I will be very happy to see the back end of chemo.

As usual, this website has always been a comfort, I will always be appreciative of that.

Take care ladies,

Hazel xx

  • I do hope your body is over the shock from the 4th chemo and it will be kind to you this time. I had my 5 the today and am waitng for the dreaded bone pain to hit me by the weekend. I have my panadeine forte ready this time. I hate endone so I'm not taking it. As for the inflamed throat I have already taken manuka honey as suggested by another lady on here and gargling the bi carb soda and water. Just listen to your body and don't feel guilty if you need time in bed. It will be over soon. Start counting down the days . I know I am!
