Chemo done and dusted

Despite being at the computer at O545 due to dexamethasone I had my 6th and final chemo yesterday and feel quite elated. They also took out the PICC line which I have to say was a real life saver and for the first time in 3 weeks I could take a shower without a plastic bag on my left arm! it's those little things that mean so much.

No rest for the wicked though Brian and I are off to Brisbane today for the radiation planning day. It won't start until 6th Jan so gives us a lovely break over the holidays which will mean time to get out and hoon on the water on our jetskis providing it ever stops raining here!!

What ever part of your journey you are currently travelling good luck it feels good to be this far and can see an end to it all even if I have to travel to Brisbane 26 times which will be the most I have been there in the 4 years we have lived in QLD lol.

  • Hi Sarah.

Congrats also on finishing with the line. Hopefully you don't ever have to go there again. My initial treatment for early BC didn't include chemo, just surgery, radiotherapy and tamoxifen so I counted myself lucky at the time. However, since diagnosis of secondaries in bones have often wondered if chemo could have helped erase all traces! Plan a few extras e.g. a lunch, movie or shopping, as part of an occasional trip for radio. If friends or family offer help, suggest they accompany you on one of those trips. I found it made the whole 7 weeks much more bearable, even enjoyable! I think the travelling to and fro is the hardest part of that treatment. Glad you can enjoy a break first.

    Good luck,

    Julie.

  • Hi Kay

Going to the Royal Brisbane which is where you must have gone as I am in Rothwell not far from North Lakes. Thanks for the cream tips have some of the "pure" sorbolene so will use that and be advised by the nurses. Looking forward to the nice break until it starts now. Just feeeling better today from my last chemo. It's so good knowing I am not going to have to go through the yuckiness of chemo again!

  • Hi Sarah,

Which hospital are you going to in Brisbane? I was able to stay with my daughter at North Lakes as I come from Central Qld.  My skin was really good and they always commented that it was good. Only one little bit was looking like breaking down on the last week I think, but it didn't.   They told me what to use, and that's what I used.  Sorbolene while you are going through the treatment  without some ingredient in it. The nurses there will tell you and it will probably be  on your form. Then I used Zinc and Castor Oil Cream after I finished all my treatment and it's in the baby section, I was looking for it and couldn't find it. Lucky my daughter was with me.  Or Sudocream they said you can use when finished treatment.. My daughter in law said that's what I use when she changes her daughters nappy :-)

Yes, the parking is a problem during the day so luckily you can have evening visits.

    Take care

  • Hi Kay

Thanks for your cheery words. How did you go with your skin? I have had a mastectomy and it has all healed beautifully so am going to be paranoid about the skin breaking down. What skin products did you find worked best for you? The staff there were lovely yesterday and have managed to go for evening visits so the traffic and parking will be eaiser. Have to go once a week in the day to see the doctor but can do that on the train and bus which we did yesterday and was really easy.

    Take care
