Chemo date!!

Met my oncologist yesterday.  As I am HER2 positive, I am starting my Herceptin on 6th Jan and my chemo on the 7th (separated just in case of allergic reaction).  My chemo drugs are docetaxel & cyclophosphamide (why do these names seem so nasty??).  All up I am having 4 rounds of chemo, followed by 5 weeks radiation, 12 months of herceptin and 5-10 years of tamoxifan.  Can't really get my head around it all.  Also have to have a portacath put in my chest which is another trip to hospital for another general anaesthetic.  Quite nervous about chemo, hoping I don't get too sick.Has anyone else had these chemo drugs????

All the best to everyone

Emma

  • Hi Robyn, thanks for letting me know about the Zyrtec.  The oncologist said I would probably get the rash so its good to know.  It sounds like you are having an ok experience with it, hopefully I will be the same.  Food cravings I can handle because I love food!!!!!

    Thanks

  • Hi Emma,I am on Docetaxel and cyclophosphamide.I am having my 4th round next Monday. For me,it has been OK.Actually a lot better than I thought it would be.The worst thing has been the tiredness,on about days 5 to 8, and then after that, just make sure you stay away from people as much as you can from day 9 to 14.The 3rd week i have found that I feel pretty much like normal. The only real side effect that I have had each cycle,is a very itchy and lumpy skin rash, all over my body.Apparently it is a reaction to the chemo. My oncologist prescribed extra Dexamethasone, which did work ok,but kept me awake too much.Last cycle I just took Zyrtec ,and that worked just as well. But really Emma, don't worry too much.I know everyone is different, but there is another lady on here that started the week after me,and as far as I know, she is doing ok as well.Oh I forgot to mention as well,I have some very weird food cravings the first week, but no nausea at all.The tablets they give you for that work beautifully. All the best, and let us know how you go..xoxo. Robyn.
