Chemo AC round 2

Day 7 of AC round 2. I managed to feel ok by day 7 of Round one.  This round I am emotional, irritations are heightened, feeling like I just want to rest and be alone and feeling quite nauseus.  It's a reminder for me that every round is different and while I have been very strong and continued as normal, things for me are anything but normal.  I'm having to ask for more help and let a lot of things go I would normally be on top of .

  • Thanks so much!  It really helps to let go of the planning or predicting for a while - and I really was cruddy and all over the shop!

  • That is really reassuring Lisa xx Yes, half way through and really succumbed to the challenge of declaring that I wasn't coping and needed to opt out of everything for a while.

  • Thanks a lot Tracey, I am starting to improve which is good and have used the time to rest and do nice things

  • Thanks Marlee.  Am starting to feel better and improving at the relying on other people part for help

  • Hang in Melvery, you will find a way to ride out the cycles, each one is different and difficult to predict how you will feel, try to only focus on one day at a time, don't worry about the next, it's ok to feel cruddy and be all over the shop emotionally, your body and mind are working overtime trying to heal, it will get better! Big gentle hugs xx??

  • AC is tough isn't it? The nausea and steroids really do your head in. Thank goodness for the good days each fortnight. You no doubt know to keep on top of the antinausea drugs. Don't be brave with them. It is too hard mentally to be nauseous for that long. I also found fresh air helped A LOT.

if it is any help, round 3 was easier for me, which gave me the mental strength to face round 4.

you are half way now aren't you? Hope so. You can do this.

  • Hi Melvery, I think we all find progressive rounds of chemo take a little longer to recover from. Makes sense when you are fit and strong to start with but that little bit weaker each time you go for another round. Good thing is each round gives you tips on how to cope better next time. Feeling teary and like you just can't cope is normal. Take the time to rest and look after you, ask for help. Being specific about the help you need makes it easier for family and friends to pitch in. Talk to your team about extra meds for nausea. If they don't help try Travel Calm ginger, a lot of people say that helps. Simple things like rest, nausea control and help from others might make all the difference in lifting your day. Wishing you all the best and sending you hugs,

    Tracey
