Chemo 2 done & dusted!!

Hello Ladies,

Just thought I'd keep you all posted :-)  I had my 2nd chemo yesterday and all smooth sailing again thank goodness!  I have been running around today like a cut cat doing goceries and washing etc.....I'm feeling really good about myself & how things are running so smoothly :-)  My bood cell counts were still in the normal range yesterday which suprised but also very relieved.  I have my familial meeting on Thursday of next week the 1st of September & I have made my decision on what to  do no matter what the results are even if they are negitive I am going to have a double mastectomy and my overies removed just to be on the safe side but I think I will be positive to either one or the other or maybe even both.  My Mum was the 1st out of 9 girls and 3 brothers in her family to get bc but I just found out that my aunt had it 3 years ago as well so maybe the is a genetic disorder there best to safe than sorry I say....I'll be sure to let you all know how I go after that meeting anyway!

    Hi Julie,

    If you are in Victoria you just ask your local GP for a referel to the familial clinic closest to you... now in so far as I know it is all covered by medicare and doesn't cost you a red cent.  I have TNBC and my mum was the 1st to get it so it was suggested to me straight away as I have 4 girls and 2 boys to look out for.  Because my Oncologist just happened to be Professor Linderman the head of genetic testing as wel,l he got me straight in on the same day as I met him and my results were back within 2 weeks...I just haven't got them yet as I was having my 1st chemo when they wanted me to come in so I just made it for the 1st day of spring instead which is Thursday this week...not really nervous at all, I've already made my decision regardless anyway so what ever the result won't change my mind on the matter....Now from what I can gather you do have to pay in QLD and maybe other states as well so just check with your GP if your not in Victoria,  I am in Melbourne and having all my treatment at the RWH & RMH and the familial group is right there so I was lucky in that sense if you could say that!  :-)    I will keep you all posted on the final results any way so stay tuned....   :-D

    Good to hear you are doing well. Round 2 also treated me quite well. I will be going for genetic tested after treatment. I have no family history but seeing as I have trile negative BC, the onc suggested I be tested as I could be the first link in the chain. We are hoping to get a negative result as I have a sister, niece and 3 sons to worry about.

    Hello Susan,

    good to hear things are treating you ok.  I am interested in genetic testing.  Can anyone have it?  Do you know how it is done and if there is a cost?

    I dont know much about my (very small)family background but I am worried about cancer in the breast that is left and if i had gene would definitely have it off too.

    That's great to hear, Susan! Isn't good to have finally made some decisions. You feel better in the long run. Well done!  Stay positive. You are an inspiration. I too have completed my second round last Friday ( 19th). All went well but I'm finding my body is slowing down and I'm getting tired more easily. I also have bruises appearing on my legs - my legs have lost so much condition that the bones are rubbing together in my sleep. It's like being pregnant - putting a pillow between my legs!! I treated myself to my first reiki session Friday just gone. It was great and very revealing. I still have not cried and probably need to let it all out. I'm finding I'm listening to my body more and resting more often when I can. My support network is great. My husband is brilliant ( when here!). Yesterday he spent an hour going around to every Sussan store trying to find a pyjama top with a hood! I think he is sick of seeing my little green beanie in bed!! Bless him!
