There is an internet site called Adjuvant Online, accessible only to doctors/medical personnel, which can calculate the likely benefits to you of having chemo and/or hormonal therapy. In my case - stage 2, grade 3, no nodes, E+ve - chemo improved my chance of surviving another 10 years by 23% so it made a big difference to me. According to the program, adding tamoxifen to my treatment further improves my survival chances by another 11 %. Statistically I now have only 10% chance of recurrance in the next 10 years thanks to these treatments. (Also had a lumpectomy and radiation.)
Would be nice if it was even lower but clearly chemo has made a big differnce to my survival chances. It's a bummer when you find out you will need it and it is certainly worth getting a second opinion but they don't inflict this treatment on us lightly. It saves lives. You should definitely ask your oncologist for the stats on your particular cancer situation. Best of luck with everything. Janet.
