Chemo - I will return to normal one day

I haven't dropped off the face of the earth (although it did take me 5 mins to work out why I couldnt' post).  I'm on Day 7 of the 1st AC chemo - not as bad as I dreaded but not as good as i hoped.  I have no idea how anyone can manage to work on it.  I'm surviving - just.  The Lorazepam (???) or whatever has been great cos not only do I stop feeling sick, it knocks me out for hours.  I would just so like to be me for a while/  Can't really post anyomore  just saying hi.

  • Hi @Sister, the side effects are a nightmare. No way I could have worked either. I hope you get some 'good' days before your next round. Xx
  • Hi @Sister, you can do this . The first week is the worst than gradually you'll feel better. I too was amazed how anyone could work. I was never sick on either chemo but jeez did it knock me on my arse with the fatigue. Hang in there.
  • Hsnf in there. Just think...3 more to go. And in about half a week you will feel a bit more normal again. X

I had my AC given 'dose dense' which meant I had to have it every 2 weeks instead of the usual 3 weeks.
The life saving injection which had to be given no sooner than 24 hours after the finish of each infusion was often forgotten, lol.
Once I left it at the hospital and the nurse chased after me. Another time I simply forgot at home to stick it in (until reminded by my daughter).
I agree with you about working. I'm dumbfounded that anyone could go thru that and work. I was taken from my body to another place where I could observe and dissociate. I could barely cook a meal.
Due to the nature of the steroids that go with it my house was spotlessly clean, the dexies kept me awake night after night.
Good luck with it all - it's like dreaming, you wake up and it's all over.
And you can hardly remember any of it!

  • Hi @Sister
Remember that those who work through aren't experiencing horrible side effects, they are not super beings. They are just lucky and for mainly unaccountable reasons don't experience the same degree of impact! Not fair I know........hair still went though!
  • On my third AC, and still in the bad days zone, had a trip to hospital for fluids and iv antibiotics yesterday as felt so bad,  Dr said I have a upper respiratory infection, wishing this nasty bit would finish soon..... it’s a tough gig!
  • You can only do what you can do, and everyone is different. Good work @sister keep on keeping on. AC is no picnic.
  • Im on day 17 past first treatment and feel completely normal ,but look like a plucked chicken hair started falling day 14 ,first week and half i was off the planet.
  • @Sister
this is to be expected .... it will get better before the next infusion.
