Checkups

Hello ladies!!!!!Just thought I would post an update on what I have been doing for myself.Well I took myself off for a full blood count. My oncologist didn't request it,but I thought that I would feel better knowing how things are looking. My GP ordered the standard blood tests, and also bio markers, for cancer.Everything looked good,my liver function is great, and my cholesterol was the lowest it's ever been at 2.3. The changes we make to our diet after BC really do help:) I'm thinking I will get a blood test done every 12 months. It provides peace of mind, and who knows, one day it might pick up a change that would otherwise take longer to appear. Also, this morning I had my pelvic( internal) ultrasound,to keep an eye on things because of the tamoxifen, and the chance of endometrial cancer developing. 6 months ago I had this done, and the uterine lining was fine.Today she said it is borderline (thickness)'so it just goes to show how quickly things can change on Tamoxifen. The lady who did the ultrasound said that the oncologist may want to do something,or may just wait until the next 6 months and reconsider then.I have an appointment with the oncologist on the 1st.december,so I will let you know what he says about all this.Apart from these things,I feel really great. I am still taking my MagMin magnesium every day,and my hot flushes are almost non existent.Maybe a coincidence ,but I'm not game to stop it just incase!!!! Take care everyone. Cheers Robyn.xox

  • Goodness roo whistles!! Our son lives in Canada and where they take their holidays, they have bear bells that they wear on their wrists!! Take care of yourself.xox
  • I think you are wise to have these check-ups and it is always better to know where you stand. Good news about your blood tests and it is good that you know before seeing the oncologist about the changes in your uterine lining. Glad that the hot flushes are not causing you grief anymore. I think the magnesium helps keep my mood level more stable too. It is a bit of a wonder pill for me! Hope your onc visit goes well. :)Deanne xxx
  • Sounds like you are humming along nicely, from what my oncologist told me they do not leave us on the Tamoxifin for very long anyway. I have my 2nd mamogram and ultra sound 17th November and I am a little nervous, all normal I am sure. Whilst my oncologist doesn't do my bloods anymore my urologist does them plus CTscan and ultrasound and chest xrays, so I am fully covered there i think.

Interesting I forgot to take my magnisium for about 3 days, I got horrendous cramping all over my body, hands and feet. I will not do that again, I have also upped it to 600 mg twice a day.

I bought myself a cooling pad for bed and that is just awesome although my flushes have died down alot too.

Take care, its good to see you are doing so well.

  • I agree, Robyn - and I have a full blood count every year as well.  Like you, I just want to know where things stand overall.  Congratulations on your cholesterol reading - that is brilliant! It will be good to know what your Oncologist says in December.  He/she will be pleased that you are so on top of everything.  I have my 6 month checkup with the surgeon next week.  Feeling good, but there is always a touch of nerves.  Good luck to us both!! xxx Michelle

  • Hi Robyn

That is great news re your blood tests - I will ensure my surgeon orders them for me before my 12 month checkup.

Very worrying and sad news about the ultrasound, though.  That is one of the many reasons behind me not taking that particular drug.

I laughed about not quitting the MagMin.  We do the same with having 'roo whistles' on our vehicles.  Well, we've not hit a kangaroo yet so we're not game enough to drive without them, especially at night !

I am glad you are feeling good and you do sound very positive.  Congrats.

Take care and keep in touch.
