I am a 68 yr old female, and have recently been diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer, At surgery, the tumour was less than 1 cm, and was removed with clear margins, with no Node involvement. I...
Well every decision has its difficulities; butmy story is small growth removed with clear margins and very small lymph node; i was adjusting to the chemotherapy treatment but had this anxiety and dread--so first appt with oncologist and he says basically the surgery did its job and his recommendaiton was radiation and definity meds --he said chemotherapy was overused and it would give me a 1% better chance. What did it for me was that when he said no chemotherapy i felt 'i can do this' and a lot of the anxiety went--so i trust what he says-no gaurantees--and i also trust my own responses. I do have to work my way through that im not having 'the standard ' treatment; and he says that patients argue for chemotherapy even when he feels it is not warranted. The breast care nurse also spoke about the last decade of evidence that supports use of radiation and meds ---however im only a month down the track but was able to use my trust in his expertise, my own responses and i got a good book out from library- choices in treatment for breast cancer
