can you give me some advise out there

Hi everyone

I have just finished my final chemo session- yesterday (yeah) only to receive a message from my sister in law in Sydney (Randwick) that she has been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor. She is doesn't have private health and is scheduled to have a lumpectomy on Jan 3. She is right at the beginning. I go to the Peter Mac in Melbourne and feel truly blessed as it is a fantastic hospital with exceptional care. I have a whole team around me which guide and support me. Not to mention the wonderful resource/support of family and friends and oh course the 'my journey kit'. Can anyone advise us as to her best options in Sydney- which hospital will be near to her which could provide complete care as a public patient. Kiyoko is Japanese and has limited contacts in Sydney. Advise would be so welcome.

Thanks Mouse x

  • Hi Mouse,

This is Annie from BCNA's Policy Team. I'm sorry to hear that your friend Kiyoko has also been diagnosed with cancer. I would suggest that Kiyoko's GP/general doctor is a good person to talk to and can refer her to a public hospital in her area.

Mouse, you may like to let her know about BCNA and our My Journey Kit, which is a free, comprehensive information resource for women newly diagnosed with breast cancer. She can order a copy online or by calling us on (free call) 1800 500 258. Our office will be closed over the Christmas / New Year break, but we re-open on January 3 and will be available to chat then.

Kiyoko may also like to call the Cancer Council Helpline on 13 11 21 which is a free confidential service where she can talk about her concerns and needs with oncology nurses or trained health professionals. They can provide information and support and can put her in touch with services in your local area.

I hope this helps Mouse. All the best,

    Annie
