Can new bc lumps occur during chemo?

Since having surgery I am reluctant to touch that breast. However I was massaging the scar the other day and may have felt something and it is freaking me out!

  • Ive had my registrars and breast nurse check my lumps a couple times. All seromas. Get it checked out if you're worried. Its nice getting the words of a professional telling you its ok :)
  • I had a mastectomy with reconstruction and found a lump on the scar line. ..turned out to be a stitch under strain from inflammation. My oncologist checked it out for me. You'll feel more at ease once it is checked.
  • Hey Gerry, definitely get it checked out for peace of mind. I have massive scar tissue from 2 major lumpectomies as am big breasted from 2011 and 2015 and unfortunately radiation in 2011. The lumpiness is huge and I have no way of knowing without ultrasound if theres anything wrong there. The breast is still sore it never goes away but mastectomy pending so dont need to worry soon. Hugs Melinda xo
  • Hi, I would ask for an ultrasound. I have had 2 ultrasounds in 6 weeks cos I keep having pain in the breast where they took out lump. It's so hard once we go through this everything is a worry. A year and a half on I have improved slightly....... All the best.

  • Agree, get it checked out - I found a lump under my armpit during chemo and can understand how you are feeling!! Turned out to be a schwannoma (who knew that existed?? ) - totally unrelated and totally benign. We all think anything like that is cancer, when you've been there once, but it's not always! For peace of mind, check it out.
  • Hi Gerryb, like the ladies said, best to get it checked out. It is likely to be scar tissue or a cyst but we all need (and deserve) peace of mind once we've been through this. Best wishes, Jane xx
  • Gerry - ask your team to have a look for you. We all have a heightened awareness once in this predicament, it is how we deal with it next determines where we are at and it is better to be safe than sorry!  I had an Aunt who is no longer with us who ignored a lump second time around as she didn't want to believe it.  By the time she gave in and had it checked her path was very different to the first time round.  Don't let that happen to us!
    Take care
  • Hi Gerryb, I had a mastectomy & am still having chemo. After my second round I had pain & lumpiness in my other breast so my surgeon performed an ultrasound. She said it is very rare to develop anything sinister on chemo but if you are worried you should get it checked and give you piece of mind.
