Broken upper right arm..... Femara?

Well, I took a tumble yesterday, and landed on my knees, elbow and shoulder onto to a concrete driveway. I heard my arm break when I landed on my shoulder. X-Ray confirmed a break across the head of the humerus, and also the neck of the humerus. It is my right arm too, and I need to wear a collar and cuff sling for 6 to 8 weeks. The doctor in Emergency said my bones were like the bones of an old lady. Bugger! I have been on Femara for 2 and a half years now, and knew I was osteopenic, but it must be worse than I thought. I do take Vitamin D and calcium. Obviously not enough. I haven't been doing weight bearing exercises on my shoulders and arms, only walking. I will have a long time to think about the consequences of this lack of exercise. Take care . Love Chris xx
  • Hi Chris, sorry to hear about your accident.  I am someone who hates exercise but now understand it's importance for us.  I have joined my local Curves which suits me well as the circut is only 1/2 hour-I try to go around 5 times a week and as it is short I can make myself do it.  Obviously you won't be able to for a while, but you could look up your local branch and they will give you a free trial.

  • Oh Chris, you poor thing. Taking a tumble like should really end up just scratches and bruises....broken arm, wow. I hope you heal well with no complications.

I am also about to start Femara and am worried about the consequences of not doing the suggested exercises. Thanks for sharing, but a hard way to be passing on advice.

  • I am sorry to hear this too.I haven't started on hormonal therapy yet,but this is a good reminder of what we need to do.Its easy to slip back into old ways isn't it?Thanks, and I hope you heal as quickly as possible.xoxo. Robyn"
  • Hi Chris

So sorry to hear of your fall and will heed your advice. I too don't do the exercise that I know I should. I barely even walk the dog these days as I find myself caught up again in the daily grind. Thanks for posting to remind us all to slow down and give ourselves the time we deserve to exercise. Get well soon and fingers crossed you have someone to cook you a lovely Christmas lunch.

    Take care
