Breathlessness with a cold, 9 months after chemo & radiation finished

hi, maybe someone will know about this.  Last year when I had chemo and radiation I experienced a lot of breathlessness. It slowly went away after I finished treatment, for the most part.  Now 9 months later I have a cold and am suddenly very breathless again.  Is it worth checking with my gp?  Has anyone experienced this?  Do you know what causes it?  I thought it was tiredness, medication and anxiety last year.  But  I am not particularly anxious about my cold.  It's quite unpleasant.  Thanks for any ideas people have.

  • @Karenhappyquilter I had the same thing through chemo, touch wood havent really had anything in nearly 2 years such as a cold. I get the flu injection, I dont want it, but get hammered from Onc and GP over it uuugh. Im 16 months post chemo and still suffer breathlessness it doesnt change no matter what i do, over exerting is tough. I figure if I get fitter...but I am seeing thats got nothing to do with it. x Melinda
  • I had the same, a cold several months after treatment which turned into bronchitis. My GP immediately wrote me a double script for antibiotics as he said I need to be very careful not to get pneumonia as that's a hard road back. He said then and still says I have low resistance to anything so now I take 2 vitamin C tablets every morning to help.
  • Hi @Karenhappyquilter, I quite often suffer from breathlessness when I get a cold particularly if I have a very runny nose and get crap (technical term) settling on my chest.  Can happen overnight and in fact have a cold that has gone to my chest at the moment. It affects the bronchioles (branches of air sacs in the lungs) and can make you breathless.  BUT  if you're  worried a visit to your go for peace of mind is invaluable.  All the best lovely.  Xx Cath
