Hi Kazza,
you are wise to heed the doctors advice, but you always have the option to get a 2nd opinion if you aren't happy.
My advice is to keep an open mind, many times throughout your surgery and treatment you may find that things change, decisions on how they will treat you change dependant on path results etc.
