Breast Recontruction

Hi everyone. Feeling a little fragile right now. I had BC in 2002 and had a mastectomy and a breast reconstruction at the same time. I had breast implants in both breasts previously so the left one was replace after this surgery and just a couple of weeks ago I had the right implant replaced because of mri scan showing leakage and contracture of implant. Now I have started comparing the new right implant with the left and the left is smaller and it seems to be lying low and there is no inframammary fold and when lying on my side there is considerable rippling and folds. I can live with all of this because I really don't want to go through any more ops. ( I had my ovaries removed in December.) I just would like to hear from anyone who has had similar experiences. I have an appt with my plastic surgeon on Monday but he is not the most communicative of doctors and would love to have some feedback before I see him just to know what I need to discuss with him. With best regards Cheryl

  • Hi Chris. Thanks for your reply to my post. I am still learning about the site and have done a few strange things like double postings so I hope I don't get too annoying. I will learn though because I find the site very informative and inspiring. It's wonderful to have a place to be able to share when we are at our most vulnerable and receive support back. I did see the PS and he reassured me about my reconstructed breast. I am not completely convinced but that's me. It's not really about the aesthetic side but the constant worry about recurrence of the cancer. I am trying to deal with my "health anxiety" but as I have told my therapist. I have had cancer only once but diagnosed myself with it 20 times ( wrongly I have to say) I hope you are doing well and thanks again for replying to my post. Best regards Cheryl
  • Hi Cheryl, good luck with your Dr appointment. I hope he can offer some suggestions, as it doesn't seem right if your breasts are sitting at tthe wrong level, especially if all was ok with the position prior to the replacement of your implants. I had mine done in 2011, and was a bit paranoid about my boobs being level, as my expanders were not. I asked my PS to sit me up to check the level before closing me up. He must have done this, as mine are in a good position. You have been through enough with having breast cancer, so it isn't unreasonable to expect implants to look level. There is a group on this site called Breast reconstruction. There are many photos, including mine. Entry into this group is easy. Just request memebership from Louise Turner. I hope it all goes well with your appointment today. Please let us know the outcome. Love Chris xx
