Breast reconstruction begins on Wednesday

Hi Chris - glad your ordeal is on the homeward journey!

I had bilateral mastectomy in July last year with expanders.  Remember being told it was like having an elephant sitting on your chest. Mine was a little complicated as i got an infection & ended up being a longer more drawn out process than usual - but all good in the end.  Felt like going through puberty every time i had a  'pump-up' - boobs kept growing.  By the end of the filling stage, you will feel like you have bricks in your chest.  I had exchange surgery to take out expanders and put in implants at end of February this year which is much more comfortable.

I am much smaller than I was (which is prob a little hard to get used to as the rest of me unfortunately is the same size) but my neck and back are eternally grateful & thanking me for not having the double 'd's to lug around!! 

Most of all I have had a huge weight lifted from my shoulders also which is the best thing.

I don't wear bras now and joke that I will be the only one of our friends who in the nursing home in 35 years time, will still have boobs that point straight ahead :-) !!  Also can tense my chest muscles and make my boobs move - is a great party trick!!

My left side is a bit dicky due to it having all up 6 surgerys on it and lots of scar tissue inside, so may have more surgery next year to fix it.  But at the moment I am enjoying being back to 'normal' and able to do everything I could do before.
