Hi vsam,
I think it depends on what surgery you are after. I had a left mastectomy for cancer 6 months ago. I'm booked in for a prophylactic mastectomy of my right breast soon and am getting expanders placed at the same time which will be swapped for implants down the track. My original breast surgeon is also an oncoplastics guy and is able to and happy to do all this for me. There was no wait time, saw him for consult and booked in for surgery 5 weeks later. He did an amazing job with my first mastectomy and a lady who was in hospital at the same time as me had him for her bilateral mastectomy/expander surgery and was very happy with him. I guess what I'm trying to say is go back to your breast surgeon. He would have a plastic surgeon in his team that he could refer you onto if you want the tissue transfer method or could perhaps do the expander method himself.
I would also recommend joining the breast reconstruction group here. All the ladies have so much valuable info to share including good plastic surgeons. Good luck with everything. Take care, Ingrid xx
