Breast implant

Hi Beppie. Heavens, you've been through the wars with this, haven't you. I had a mastectomy with immediate implant, and an implant to enlarge the good breast (i'm very small breasted) in June 2013. I experienced considerable pain in both breasts, and took endone and oxycontin for weeks until my surgeon refused to prescribe them any more. I'm no expert, but two things come to mind. If they've tried 3 times to make them even, may be it's the continued surgery that is causing your body to say 'enough'? Also, my PS used a firm implant in both breasts, which is simply wrong for my body type. I could have got them changed, but by that stage was so over the surgery that I decided I would just stick with them. It has taken a very long time, but they have softened quite a bit. I still feel like I've got a couple of little saucers strapped to my chest, but it's now annoying discomfort rather than pain. Do you know what type of implant has been used? I gather the firmer ones have less chance of causing the skin to wrinkle, but I know a lot of women do have problems with them. Can you check with your PS, or get a second opinion? If you are in Melbourne, I can recommend the excellent PS I now go to - I didn't go back to the original one. Incidentally, I was left with very uneven breasts too, and was incredibly upset. But again, I didn't want to go through more surgery. No one seems to notice except me, even when I wear scoop necklines, and when I've mentioned it to women friends many say their breast sizes are uneven. Not sure if they're just being kind to me, but 2.5 years down the track it matters less than it did. Sometimes I have used 'chicken livers' on the small side if I feel it's really obvious. But one did fall out once when I bent over, so I decided they could be the cause of extreme embarrassment if they fell out at the wrong time. So I do suggest you get another opinion from a good PS. Best of luck - I know how awful it is to have complications like this after all the trauma of BC. Pam xx
