Bras........For us who are *different*

Since my diagnosis in early July, I have been searching madly for a post-surgery bra to fit my large, heavy breasts.  BCNA sent me a bra which I thought would fit but was unfortunately way too small.  I have scoured the internet, asked around, checked shops etc, all to no avail.  Until this week when my search led me to a shop in Camberwell (Vic), which I had known of for years.  (Going back 28 years when I was pregnant with my eldest daughter & was at the end of my tether trying to find a maternity bra that fit me & a shop assistant/corsetierre suggested I could possibly have a bra made there).  On a whim, I checked their website & lo & behold, finally felt there may be a light at the end of the proverbial tunnel.

On arrival at the store, I was greeted by a *specialist fitter* who after my explanation of what I was searching for, measured under my breasts and around them, dissapeared for a minute, returned with a bra, which when I tried it on - fitted perfectly!!!!!!!!  Couldn't believe my luck.  This lady was also very understanding, patient & compassionate!

It turns out, this store has a huge range of bras to fit every size............from the very small, to the very large & everything in between!!  Their range also includes bathers & bras for women who have had mastectomies & they are able to alter bras etc for each individual &&&&&&  they have an on-line store...............

So, if you want details send me a  message & I will be more than happy to provide you with their details. :)))))))

    Hi Chele, Cherly and Tonya,

We have a had a few women recommended Dickory Dock's service in Camberwell for bra and prosthesis fittings. Have a look at their listing in our Local Services Directory - http://www.bcna.org.au/ldirectory/listing/dickory-dock-bra-and-prosthesis-fitting-camberwell-vic

If you have any other services you would like to share with others feel free to recommend them to be listed in the Directory: http://www.bcna.org.au/sharing-support/find-services-your-area

  • Hi, I had a similar experience this week in Brighton (Vic) too. The shop is called Ce soir - Bay St and I was met by the most sympathetic and helpful staff as I explained that - following my surgery - I was unsure exactly what size I was (I've been living in comfort/ sports bras)... As I said, the staff were lovely. I would have been in the store for at least an hour and a half, as I was given all the time I needed to find a bra (as it turns out, a number of bras) that not only fitted but also made me feel "like me"! I cried as I was leaving, as the whole experience was so overwhelming. I would recommend to anyone that being correctly fitted post surgery, by caring staff, is a truly worthwhile experience.
  • I buy really pretty bras online line ( previously at She stores but some have closed down now). Try "Freya" brand for bras and swimmers And " Curvey Kate" for an everyday fit. I am, was, a G cup but they supply large and small. Just put in the brand name and the supplier will pop up. They are pricey, we're used to that I guess, but so worth it, so pretty and they wear well. Had mine a year now and still look great. Feels really nice to be back into them. Cheers Louie

  • Thanks CheleC for that info! I've been searching for a long time for a bra that clips at the front as my arm cannot reach easily around my back since surgery! Something similar to what l was given at the hospital just after surgery. Hoping they can help me too! Cheers N
