Hi Ladies, Who has had a Bone Scan whats involved??? Im having one next week (i requested it my dr doesnt want to do it) but i want some peace of mind...

Yes I've had a bone scan... lol sooo many tests hard to remember what was what lol... know what u mean about piece of mind... here is a link http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003833.htm might help answer all ur questions. I do remember this test well and it can sting when they inject you but only for a short amount of time (like 30seconds or something) from this test I found out I also have artheritis... lol... breast cancer & artheritis lol b4 I'm 30... lol... I think u should definately do the test, for ur piece of mind :)

hi elisha, i see you are only 25, and it is too young to have to deal with BC, but i know it happens. you probably have other things going on in your life atm : job, family, relationships, travel. to have a diagnosis of BC would be hard to fathom. big SHOCK. BUT there is hope, and i do hope you will be ok. it is a lot to deal with. day by day is best advice, and get information to help you make informed choices on your treatments. it is not easy to TRUST someone to operate on you and then have treatments, but research on BEST PRACTICE helps to have some confidence in others advice. you will be monitored also. i did not have a bone scan with my treatments so cannot help you there. have you made any contact with other young BC people, or a breast care nurse too who might help you. it is ok to be SCARED of it all. my advice is to get all information and try and make sense of it all, to work out the best way forward. there are online sites for information too, good luck .. kathy.

You do about 5 different ones lasting from 2-3 mins to max of 15 !! So you get a break inbetween . I hate small spaces , it did get close at one point but deep breaths and it's only a few mins not ages . Good luck x

I had a 'dexa' scan recently - it wasn't like any thing like the previous scans I had - it was a 'no event' really....just lie there on a bed and a machine goes up and down.........I chatted to the nurse who sat next to me - bingo that was it - done!

Janina Hi I just had mine done yesterday , it was fine . Just went in at 12.40 had a chest X-ray then moved along to a very nice young man , who took my bloods then injected me with radioactive dye . Even had a joke in the waiting room about it , then went off for lunch and Xmas shopping ! The surreal bit comes next my hubby and I got into the car , looked at each other and remembered why we were there !!!!! Reality still coming to terms with it ! Back in the hospital 3.15 had a lie down , 2 lollys and a glass of water later all done ( I have a stinking cough and cold ) took about 35 mins !! I wasn't tape down and I didn't feel caulstraphobic just wanted to cough x good luck

I'm so glad I stumbled across this. I have my bone scan next week and I am. Super caulstrophibic. The idea of being taped and restricted in any way is seriously freaking me out. Yikes! Thank you for sharing!! Now I can ensure I take something to prepare for it. Thanks, Janina

I had the same test Heather- whole of body bone scan too only I was sent away for 4 hours. I ahd mine just recently because of rib pain and possible secondaries but luckily all is well so far.
