BONE SCAN...!!!

I have just had a bone scan done.  They inject a dye in and then I had to go off for two hours and then come back.  My hubby and I went for lunch.  The injection didn't hurt and I always worn people it is hard finding a vein that will work for them these days so it gives them prior warning. 

I had to strip down to just knickers and put on one of their elegant gowns for my screening. (sounds like I am at the Emmy Awards but afraid not).  Anyway you lay down with your feet taped with toes touching, a sponge under your knees and one between your legs and you have to keep perfectly still.  This session took 20 mins and I thought it was all over.  But not so lucky Lucy.  They then added something like an X-ray blanket around my upper body and velcroed it and then taped it.  I had to keep perfectly still for approx. 25 minutes.  When it was all over they gave me a handle on a chain to lift myself up with cause the old bones had gone stiff and I had a bit of a problem getting up.  I hope this gives you a bit of an education as to what to expect.  I wish I had been more prepared for what to expect.  I believe that would have made it easier for me.  The machines and screens move around your body slowly during this time.  I am glad it is over BUT also very glad I have had it done to confirm that the EBC had not spread.  I have my full body CT scan tomorrow so will be interesting to know whether I get the wet my pants feeling.  At least I am prepared for it if I do and I won;t panic and it will all be good.

I had a bone scan and CT scan done in the delay gap before my mastectomy. At the time it was a means of thinking I was being proactive even though there was a delay. Having read the other ladies comments, I'm thinking maybe it was a big advantage having all done before my body experienced any trauma. It also provided reassuring results as I went into surgery.

The bone scan involved me going for an injection of radioactive stuff mid morning - not too bad, similar to any blood collection, etc. and then I went off to work for 3 hours. When I returned I didn't even have to take clothes, etc off - just my pandora bracelet!! With the great choice of music in the background, I actually has a little snooze while it was happening!!

The "wet the pants" feeeling with the CT scan did provide a giggle. Fortunately the radialogist on the day warned me and although i wondered how that could be when she said it - that's exactly what it felt like!!

Good luck with it all and hopefully it will be as positive as I had!!

 i see you are only 25, and it is too young to have to deal with BC, but i know it happens. you probably have other things going on in your life atm  : job, family, relationships, travel. to have a diagnosis of BC would be hard to fathom. big SHOCK. BUT  there is hope, and i do hope you will be ok. it is a lot to deal with. day by day is best advice, and get information to help you make informed choices on your treatments. it is not easy to TRUST someone to operate on you and then have treatments, but research on BEST PRACTICE helps  to have some  confidence in  others advice. you will be monitored also.

i did not have a bone scan with my treatments so cannot help you there.

 have you made any contact with other young BC people, or a breast care nurse too who might help you. it is ok to be SCARED of it all.

my advice is to get all information and try and make sense of it all, to work out the best way forward. there are  online sites for information too,

Yes I've had a bone scan... lol sooo many tests hard to remember what was what lol... know what u mean about piece of mind... 

here is a link  http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003833.htm  might help answer all ur questions. I do remember this test well and it can sting when they inject you but only for a short amount of time (like 30seconds or something) 

from this test I found out I also have artheritis... lol... breast cancer & artheritis lol b4 I'm 30... lol... 

I think u should definately do the test, for ur piece of mind :)
